Wellness in the face of adversity

Touch-points:

Background

Airspresso is an established airside café with operations in both islands of New Zealand; one in New Plymouth, one in Queenstown, and one in Dunedin. The brainchild of two hospitality entrepreneurs with vastly different backgrounds, the brand has proved to be a winning formula for travellers and visitors alike.

The Project/s

The hospitality industry has been impacted hugely by Covid-19 and for the Airspresso businesses, they not only endured the 7 week lockdown, but they were challenged with opening to a customer base that currently doesn’t exist. With New Zealand closed off to the world, Airspresso staff were uncertain about their own futures, whether the businesses that employed them would survive, and for their overseas staff when they would see their families again.

It was clear to the Airspresso leadership team that their employees were experiencing immense stress during these uncertain times and therefore reached out to Strategy Collective to see how we could assist in developing people’s resiliency to get through these challenges. Strategy Collective developed and facilitated a Resiliency and Wellbeing workshop and held it in a pristine setting of Queenstown. We were joined by our special guest Paul Rangiwahia (a mental health advocate from New Plymouth), and the New Plymouth, Queenstown and Dunedin management teams spent the day together learning how to look after their mental health, learning how to talk about mental health with their own staff, and learning practical tools and strategies on how to build their own resilience.

“These results have given me more confidence which has enabled me to act more quickly to address any issues relating to health and wellbeing, which is of huge benefit in being able to address/solve issues before they become a bigger problem.”

“I have gained greater confidence in supporting my staff with issues related to health and wellbeing and I have a more well-rounded understanding of performance-based issues that may have a root cause in mental health.”

“I would absolutely recommend the health and wellbeing workshop. Even if you are already aware of the ideas covered it’s great to reinforce those ideas so that you can confidently implement them within your business. Was also great to give yoga a go which is something I would not ordinarily consider doing!”
